A trusted name for Latin American and Caribbean voices

Since 2015, Books & Smith has worked with many of the most well-known Latin American and Caribbean writers, especially from the Dominican Republic, to publish, translate, evaluate, and edit their work. The house began in New York, is expanding to Texas, and keeps printing partners in Mexico and the Dominican Republic.

The founder

Edgar Smith

Edgar Smith is a Dominican writer, editor, and translator, and the founder of Books & Smith. He has published 18 books of his own, and in 2023 the International Book Fair of New Jersey honored him for his literary career.

His conviction shapes the house: a safe, reliable, and professional space where every author, those known and those to be known, can feel confident that their book will have the same opportunities as any book from a large traditional publisher.

What we hold to

Quality

Every edition is held to the standards of a professional house, whatever its path to print. We follow the hybrid publishing guidelines of the Independent Book Publishers Association.

Identity and inclusion

We publish voices the industry has long overlooked, with a special focus on Hispanic and Latino authors, and we welcome writers of every background whose work shares our values of respect, identity, inclusion, and artistic excellence.

Two languages

An outstanding line of translated books moves stories between Spanish and English, so each one finds readers in both.
